As we enter the new term after the Easter break we return to our studies in 1 Samuel.

We pick up from the final speech of the great faithful Judge/Prophet/Priest, Samuel, urging the nation to heed God's warnings, traceable way back to the birth of their nation, warning them not to be tempted to hide behind even their best men in the nation when such men are looked upon as their god. Nothing and no one must even begin to be compared with their faithful covenant God (Yahweh - spelled with capital L-O-R-D in our English bibles) - if even good men cannot and must not substitute for God, how much more, wicked, poor leaders - as sadly most of their future kings are going on to prove to be.

So Samuel's legacy is to call on God's people to never so depend on even the best of men when to do so is at the expense of faith and trust in their covenant, faithful God - Yahweh - the LORD.

Reason?

Even the best of men are but men at best.

Hence the first commnandment Moses was given for the nation and all God's people.
